AFRAA Convenes 12th Aviation Stakeholders Convention in Addis Ababa
AFRAA's 12th ASC opened in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
The African Airlines Association (AFRAA) kicked off its 12th Aviation Stakeholders Convention in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on Monday, May 13, 2024.
This year’s event, proudly hosted by the official carrier Ethiopian Airlines, carries the theme “Beyond Connecting African Aviation.”
Focus on a Viable African Aviation Industry
AFRAA outlined that the convention’s carefully curated program aims to achieve outcomes that will propel a successful and sustainable African aviation industry.

In his welcome remarks, Mr. Abderahmane Berthe, AFRAA Secretary General, extended a warm welcome to all sponsors, exhibitors, speakers, and delegates. He emphasised the efforts made to ensure a valuable and enjoyable experience for all attendees.
Call to Action for Policymakers
Mr. Mesfin Tasew Bekele, Chief Executive Officer of Ethiopian Airlines Group, emphasised the need for policymakers to focus on crafting policies that:
- Facilitate the growth of African aviation
- Encourage competition in aviation services
- Liberalise traffic rights (similar to N/America, Europe, and others)
- Streamline business operations by easing fund transfers, reducing taxation burdens, and making strategic investments in aviation infrastructure (including airports, maintenance facilities, and aviation training academies)
