The Single African Air Transport Market in Africa – Pilot Implementation Project (SAATM-PIP) was launched in Dakar, Senegal, on November 14, 2022. Officials in attendance from up to 17 countries in Africa included Ministers of Transport, Director Generals of Aviation, airline CEOs, MDs of airports, partners and stakeholders. The project launched on the 23rd-anniversary occasion of the Yamoussoukro Decision (YD), marked under the theme – “Acceleration of Air Transport Liberalization in Africa to improve Continental Connectivity and Integration.”

SAATM is a flagship project of the African Union Agenda 2063, an initiative of the African Union to create a single unified air transport market in Africa to advance the liberalization of civil aviation in Africa and act as an impetus to the continent’s economic integration agenda. SAATM will ensure aviation plays a major role in connecting Africa, promoting its social, economic and political integration and boosting intra-Africa trade and tourism as a result. –IATA
