Afrijet Orders ATR 42-600 to Enhance Regional Connectivity
ATR 42-600 will join FlyGabon’s fleet, with an option for one more.
Afrijet (Gabon) has signed a firm order for one ATR 42-600 with an option for an additional unit.
Delivery of the first aircraft is scheduled for 2025, with the optional second aircraft planned for 2026.
The new ATR 42-600, with a seating capacity of 46, will join FlyGabon’s fleet (launched in 2024), which currently includes two ATR 72-600s.
This aircraft will replace Afrijet’s older ATR 42-500 model, providing advanced passenger amenities and supporting regional air travel needs in Gabon, as outlined by regional aircraft manufacturer ATR.
Supporting Regional Mobility
Nyl Moret-Mba, Afrijet’s General Manager, stated that the aircraft is well-suited to meet the demands of passenger traffic and align with local airport infrastructure.
Alexis Vidal, ATR’s SVP Commercial, emphasised the aircraft’s cost-effectiveness, versatility, and low emissions, which will support FlyGabon’s long-term operational efficiency.
“The combination of ATR 42 and 72 models will offer FlyGabon maximum flexibility for efficient operations in the long term.”
ATR 42-600 and Environmental Performance
According to ATR, the ATR 42-600 has the lowest cost per trip in its category.
ATR reports a 30% reduction in fuel consumption compared to similar-sized regional jets and highlights the aircraft’s ability to operate in challenging environments.
This makes the ATR 42-600 excel in both environmental performance and operational flexibility.
