The African Airlines Association, AFRAA Secretary General, Mr. Abderahmane Berthé, recently participated in the Airbus Fleet Connect for Africa event held between June 23 – 25, 2024 in Kigali, Rwanda.

The SG’s interventions focused on critical areas shaping aviation in Africa:

1. Fleet Growth Expectations

    Mr. Berthé discussed aviation expectations in Africa, including passenger demand evolution and the continent’s preparedness for anticipated aviation growth.

    2. Safety & Operations Challenges

    Addressing safety, he highlighted the biggest hazards and threats faced by African aviation. Measures to promote safetyculture without compromising growth were also explored. 

    Notably, Mr. Berthé shared insights from the Inaugural African Aviation Safety & Operations Summit by AFRAA and Flight Safety Foundation.

    3. Talent & Leadership Strategies

    The event delved into strategies for training and retaining skilled aviation personnel. Expectations for current and future leaders were discussed, emphasising sustainability in African aviation.

    Airline operators and aircraft manufacturers, particularly Airbus, engaged in fruitful discussions, sharing best practices and addressing regional operation challenges.
