Astral Aviation Restarts Sharjah-Eldoret Cargo Flights, Targets Expansion
Eldoret Airport sees cargo return as Astral Aviation resumes flights; Eyes expansion to Istanbul, Guangzhou, Mumbai.
Astral Aviation (8V), in collaboration with African Salhiya, has recommenced weekly cargo flights from Sharjah, UAE to Eldoret, effective from March 14, 2024. The cargo service, utilising a Boeing 767 Freighter, plans to increase to twice weekly.
In a statement, Astral outlined that the flights will transport Kenyan perishables, including flowers, fresh fruits, vegetables, and meat, to the UAE. As Eldoret’s sole cargo carrier, Astral aims to boost exports to the Middle East.
CEO on Weekly Cargo Flights to Eldoret
Sanjeev Gadhia, CEO of Astral Aviation, has acknowledged the resumption of flights, which were suspended for over four months.
He expressed gratitude for the support from the Government of Kenya and noted the challenges to be overcome, including the availability of jet fuel and a cold storage facility at the airport.
New Routes and Multimodal Solutions
Astral also revealed it is also considering flights to Eldoret from Istanbul, Guangzhou, and Mumbai, with plans to provide multimodal solutions from Eldoret to Uganda, Rwanda, D.R. Congo, and South Sudan.
