Boeing’s 2022 Commercial Market Outlook (CMO) forecasts Africa’s airlines will require about 1010 new aircraft in the next 20 years and need up to 67,000 new personnel to operate and maintain the new fleet. Deliveries 73% (740 aircraft) of total deliveries are forecasted to be single-aisle jets – 84% of the new deliveries will be to support passenger traffic and cargo growth. Fleet Growth Africa’s fleet size is projected to see a 3.5% fleet growth – doubling over the next 20 years to 1570 aircraft. Traffic Growth African airlines are forecasted to triple their traffic – with Europe, Intra-Africa, and the Middle East as the top three origins and destinations. Personnel Demand New personnel will be needed to operate and maintain the fleet including 20,000 pilots, 26,000 cabin crew, and 21,000 technicians. Global Share Africa’s services market value is projected at $80Billion – a 2% share of global services market value.
The 2022 CMO reflects that the global market is recovering as Boeing projected in 2020. Demand for domestic air travel has made a strong recovery across a number of regions, with international traffic gaining momentum as restrictions ease, tracking to return to pre-pandemic levels by 2023 to 2024.
