On July 20, 2023, Diamond Aircraft’s all-electric eDA40 aircraft completed its maiden flight at the company’s headquarters in Wiener Neustadt, Austria. This event marked a milestone for Diamond Aircraft and its project partners, and brings the eDA40 one step closer to certification.

The eDA40 is set to become the first electric aircraft certified under EASA/FAA Part 23 regulations. It is designed as an electric circuit trainer, powered by a Safran Electrical & Power ENGINeUSTM electric smart motor.

Piloted by Diamond’s Head of Flight Test Sören Pedersen, during its first flight, the eDA40 underwent system checks, and basic maneuver testing, and initial performance evaluation. The flight proceeded as planned, and all test objectives were met, according to the company.
