Emirates Boosts Frequencies to Key Destinations: Uganda, Ethiopia, and South Africa
EK aims to meet rising demand and improve continental connectivity
Emirates (EK) has announced significant increases to its African operations, aiming to cater to growing demand and strengthen connectivity across the continent.
Key Expansions in Africa:
- Uganda: A daily service to Entebbe International Airport with Boeing 777-300ER, commencing October 27, 2024, up from the previous five weekly services , adding 718 weekly seats.
- Ethiopia: A daily flight to Addis Ababa Bole International Airport, effective January 1, 2025, enhancing connectivity to the Middle East and Far East.
- South Africa: A fourth daily flight to Johannesburg O.R. Tambo International Airport, starting March 1, 2025, restoring pre-pandemic levels of service.
Strategic Importance of Africa
Adnan Kazim, Emirates’ Deputy President and Chief Commercial Officer, emphasised the strategic importance of Africa to the airline:
“The introduction of frequencies to our existing points in Uganda, South Africa and Ethiopia help support the region’s growth and provide critical links using Dubai as a key gateway to emerging economies across Asia and the Middle East,” Kazim stated.
Expanding African Footprint
Emirates has noted that with these latest developments, the airline will operate 161 weekly flights between Africa and Dubai.
The airline’s extensive network in Africa, coupled with its codeshare and interline partnerships with airlines like Royal Air Maroc, Cemair, and Pro Flight Zambia, provides passengers with access to over 210 regional points.
