Emirates SkyCargo and Astral Aviation Sign MoU to Boost Africa’s Global Trade

Emirates SkyCargo, the cargo arm of Emirates, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Astral Aviation (8V) to enhance global trade to and from Africa.

The MoU was signed by Badr Abbas and Sanjeev Gadhia, CEO of Astral Aviation Limited, at air cargo Africa.

The partnership combines Emirates SkyCargo’s global network of over 145 destinations with Astral Aviation’s extensive intra-Africa network of 50 destinations.

Both airlines have expertise in handling sensitive cargo, such as perishables and pharmaceuticals.

Africa’s Growing Prominence in Global Trade

According to Badr Abbas, Emirates SkyCargo’s Divisional Senior Vice President, “Africa has immense growth potential, with 11 of the 20 fastest-growing economies.”

He added that the partnership with Astral Aviation will support businesses in reaching new suppliers and customers globally.

Under the agreement, the airlines will collaborate on initiatives such as expanding cargo interline options and block space agreements to enhance connectivity and boost African businesses.

The partnership supports the growing economic and investment cooperation between the UAE and Africa, with the UAE being the fourth largest global investor in Africa.

The agreement also aligns with the goals of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), which aims to increase Africa’s exports to the rest of the world by 32% by 2035.
