On June 20, 2023, Ethiopia and South Sudan signed a bilateral air transport service agreement to replace the existing temporary service between the two countries with a permanent and comprehensive air transport service, according to the Ethiopian Civil Aviation Authority (ECAA). The agreement was signed by Mr. Getachew Mengste, CEO of ECAA, and Captain Subek David Dada from South Sudan.

The agreement is based on the provisions of the Yamusukuru decision, which establishes a framework for the liberalization of air transport services between African countries. It lays the foundation for conducting air transport service in conformance with International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standards and principles.

The CAA of both countries have agreed to collaborate on a range of issues, including search and rescue. They are expected to sign a memorandum of understanding to formalise this collaboration.
