Ethiopian Airlines, ThinkYoung and Boeing’s 2nd Edition STEM School Program Concludes
28 high school students, including 50% females, graduated with STEM skills
In August 2024, Ethiopian Airlines announced the successful completion of its second annual STEM School program, conducted in collaboration with ThinkYoung and Boeing.
This year, 28 high school students in grade 11, with a notable 50% female participation, completed the program. The three-year initiative targets underserved youth from various regions across Ethiopia, aiming to foster their academic growth and interest in higher education.
Ethiopian Airlines noted the selection process, conducted in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, seeks to ensure that the most promising students are equipped to excel.
“By investing in the education of our youth, we are investing in the future of Ethiopia,” stated Mr. Mesfin Tasew, Group Chief Executive Officer of Ethiopian Airlines. “We are proud to witness the growth and accomplishments of these bright young minds and are confident they will contribute significantly to Ethiopia’s future.”
Delila Kidanu, Director of ThinkYoung Africa, added, “We are happy to support the future generation of STEM champions in Ethiopia and Africa. We look forward to partnering again with Boeing and Ethiopian Airlines next year and further developing this innovative program for and with young people.”
Hands-On Learning, Launchpad for Ethiopian Aviation Leaders
Participants in the program learned coding, robotics, and AI, along with teamwork and advanced problem-solving skills at the STEM School hosted by Ethiopian Aviation University in collaboration with Ethiopian Airlines.
They also received exclusive access to the airline’s cargo, maintenance, repair, and overhaul operations to gain insight into the aviation sector.
The initiative is set to continue, welcoming a new cohort of Ethiopian students in 2025. The program equips students with essential skills and encourages them to pursue careers in STEM fields, contributing to the growth of Ethiopia’s aviation industry.
