On April 10, 2025, Ethiopian Airlines announced a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Safran for the supply of Z400 economy class seats for its fleet of 8 Boeing 777-9 aircraft.

The agreement was outlined during the Aircraft Interiors Expo in Hamburg, Germany.

Next-Generation Comfort and Tech

The Z400 seats, engineered specifically for long-haul operations, promise an enhanced travel experience for Ethiopian Airlines customers.

According to Safran, these seats now feature a 13-inch screen—a significant upgrade from the previous 11.6-inch displays—and are 12.5% lighter thanks to fewer components and advanced lightweight materials, ensuring cost-efficient operation and sustainability. Each Boeing 777-9 aircraft will be configured with 383 of these modern economy seats.

In a social media post, the airline’s Group Vice President of Customer Experience, Samson Arega Bekele, highlighted the significance of the agreement:
