flydubai and Boeing Sign Agreement for Space Bin Retrofit on 737 MAX Fleet
flydubai retrofits 21 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft with Space Bins to boost luggage capacity.

Aircraft Interiors Expo (AIX), April 10, 2025—flydubai and Boeing have announced an agreement to retrofit 21 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft in flydubai’s fleet with larger Boeing Space Bins, aiming to enhance passenger convenience and optimise operational efficiency.
Features of the Boeing Space Bins
The Space Bins feature an innovative design, allowing passengers to store up to six standard-sized bags per bin—an increase from the four bags accommodated by standard bins.
The bins achieve this by enabling bags to be placed on their edge, maximising capacity, according to Boeing. Speaking on the development, Daniel Kerrison, Senior Vice President of Inflight Operations at flydubai, stated:
“Since commencing operations in 2009, we have remained dedicated to investing in product innovation and elevating our passengers’ inflight experience. By having Boeing’s larger Space Bins on our 737 MAX aircraft, this will provide our passengers with added convenience and increased storage space that rivals the experience offered on a wide-body aircraft.”
Space Bin Retrofit to Optimise Passenger Experience
Doug Backhus, Vice President of Cabin, Modifications and Maintenance at Boeing, highlighted the importance of bin capacity in meeting passenger expectations:
“Passengers are making the connection between bin capacity and the extra room they need and expect for their carry-on bags. We are proud to partner with flydubai to bring Space Bins capability to their existing 737 MAX fleet.”
flydubai operates a fleet of 88 Boeing 737 aircraft, including 59 737 MAX models. The airline serves over 130 destinations across 55 countries, spanning regions such as Africa, Central Asia, South-East Europe, the GCC, and South Asia.
