Ghana’s Tourism Exceeds Pre-Pandemic Levels – GTA
Ghana Tourism records 1,148,002 visitors in 2023, with the USA leading inbound arrivals.
Ghana’s tourism sector has surpassed pre-pandemic levels in 2023, according to the Ghana Tourism Authority’s (GTA) announcement.
The recently released 2023 Tourism Report reveals 1,148,002 international arrivals, showing an upward trend compared to pre-pandemic levels (914,892 arrivals in 2022).
Inbound Destinations
The report also breaks down the top inbound destinations. The United States leads with 133,885 visitors, followed by Nigeria (82,642) and the United Kingdom (51,785).
Domestic Tourism
Domestic tourism also witnessed a surge in 2023, with 1,407,709 travellers reported, compared to 945,405 in 2022. The data highlights a rise in both international and domestic travel, alongside promising growth within the cruise tourism sector, which saw 9,152 arrivals.
Occupancy Rates
The 2023 Tourism Report highlights that 5-star hotels lead in occupancy rates at 71%. It also notes a rise in licensed facilities, (5,786 in 2023 compared to 5,376 in 2022).
