Global Air Traffic for August 2023 Nears Pre-Pandemic Levels at 95.7%-IATA

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has reported a continued strong trend in post-pandemic passenger air traffic for August 2023.

Total traffic, measured in revenue passenger kilometres (RPKs), saw a 28.4% increase compared to August 2022, bringing global traffic to 95.7% of pre-COVID levels.

International traffic experienced a significant boost, climbing 30.4% compared to the same month the previous year. All markets reported double-digit percentage gains year on year, with international RPKs reaching 88.5% of August 2019 levels.

International Passenger Markets – Africa

African airlines reported a 26.1% increase in traffic for August 2023 compared to a year ago. Capacity for the month of August was up by 25.5%, and load factor rose by 0.4 percentage points to 76.2%.
