Green Africa’s first owned aircraft strengthens its promise of affordable air travel

Green Africa Airways (Q9) has acquired its first owned aircraft, an ATR 72-500 (MSN 852, registration 5N-GAB), which landed in Lagos on 2 April 2025.
In a statement, Babawande Afolabi, Founder & CEO of Green Africa, confirmed that the ATR 72-500 acquisition was partly financed through a Naira debt facility provided by Access Bank.
He remarked, “This milestone marks the next phase of our journey to bring safe, affordable, and reliable air travel to a broader group of customers in the region.”
Babawande also expressed appreciation to Access Bank, saying its backing plays a role in “shaping the future of local aircraft financing in Nigeria and the continent.”
Green Africa, which entered service in 2021, emphasises the local foundation of its expansion, noting that the support from customers has been instrumental.
