IATA Projects Resilient Airline Industry Performance for 2025
Airlines expected to achieve $36 billion in net profits.

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has updated its 2025 airline industry financial outlook, projecting net profits of $36.0 billion, an increase from $32.4 billion in 2024.
The net profit margin is expected to rise to 3.7%, while total revenues are anticipated to reach a record high of $979 billion.
Despite a decline in global GDP growth from 3.3% in 2024 to 2.5% in 2025, IATA reports that profitability is expected to improve due to falling oil prices.
Willie Walsh, IATA’s Director General, stated, “By many measures including net profits, it will still be a better year for airlines than 2024, although slightly below our previous projections.”
Africa
In Africa, net profit is projected at $0.2 billion with an 8% increase in demand, reports IATA.
Overall, the airline industry remains focused on achieving net zero CO2 emissions by 2050, with strong public support for sustainable practices.
