IATA Remarks on Global IT Systems Outage (July 19, 2024)

Ethiopian Airlines, Airlink confirm operations remain unaffected

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) acknowledged the worldwide IT outage affecting various industries, including air transport, caused by issues with Microsoft and Crowdstrike.

We sympathise with travellers who face disruption because of these issues which are outside of airlines’ control,” stated IATA. “We thank travelers for their patience while Microsoft and Crowdstrike deploy solution.

Airlines in Africa Provide Updates

Africa’s air operators, including Ethiopian Airlines and Airlink, issued statements regarding their operations:

  • Ethiopian Airlines: “We are not currently experiencing any disruptions to our IT systems at our headquarters or any impact on our flight operations due to the global IT system outage. Nonetheless, we are vigilantly monitoring for any potential impacts at all our stations globally. We will continue to monitor developments and update you accordingly.”
  • Airlink: “Despite this morning’s global IT systems outage, Airlink flights are running on schedule. We apologise for any incon venience caused by the disruption to our communications network; however, our systems are up and running again.”
