ITA Airways Launches Direct Flights to Accra
New route connects Rome and Accra starting June 6, 2024.
ITA Airways (AZ) is set to launch commercial flights to Accra, Ghana, following approval from the country’s Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation Authority.
The airline plans to introduce direct flights between Rome Fiumicino Airport (FCO) and Accra’s Kotoka International Airport (ACC) starting June 6, 2024.

In a statement, Mrs. Yvonne Nana Afriyie Opare, Managing Director of Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL), emphasised GACL’s commitment to collaborating with all airport agencies and ITA Airways to ensure a smooth travel experience for passengers at Kotoka International Airport.
ITA Airways Announces Accra Flight Schedule
According to ITA Airways, the new route will offer the following frequencies:
Rome (FCO) to Accra (ACC):
- June 6, 2024 – June 30, 2024: 3 flights weekly
- July 1, 2024 – October 25, 2024: 4 flights weekly
- October 28, 2024 – March 29, 2025: 4 flights weekly
Accra (ACC) to Rome (FCO):
- June 7, 2024 – July 7, 2024: 3 flights weekly
- July 9, 2024 – October 25, 2024: 4 flights weekly
- October 28, 2024 – March 29, 2025: 4 flights weekly
Accra Welcomes New Airline
GACL noted the arrival of ITA Airways, bringing the total number of international airlines serving Kotoka International Airport to 24.
Currently, the airport is served by 23 other international airlines, with regional airports served by Passion Air and Africa World Airlines. Gian Air also operates charter flights.
