Kenya Airways Adds Second B737-800 Freighter
KQ's new 737-800 freighter delivery expands its cargo fleet to four.
Kenya Airways (KQ) has taken delivery of its second Boeing 737-800 Freighter this year, marking a significant boost to its cargo hauling capabilities.
The B737-800 has a 20-ton capacity and a 7-hour range, which is expected to boost KQ’s capacity across its global network, especially in the Middle East, Asia, and Africa.
With this latest addition on April 1, 2024, KQ’s total cargo fleet grows to four aircraft, including another Boeing 737-800 Freighter and two Boeing 737-300 Freighters.
Capitalising on AfCFTA Opportunities
KQ emphasises that these freighters are well-positioned to capitalise on the opportunities presented by the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). This trade agreement aims to streamline commerce within the continent and beyond.
CEO’s Statement
Allan Kilavuka, Group Managing Director and CEO of Kenya Airways sees this expansion as a major milestone. He highlights the additional capacity’s role in propelling Africa’s prosperity and connecting its people, cultures and markets.
