Lufthansa Completes First Direct Flight From Munich to Johannesburg

Lufthansa Airlines (LH) completed the first direct flight between Johannesburg and Munich on September 3, 2024, following a 19-year hiatus.
Lufthansa CEO Jens Ritter, who accompanied the inaugural flight, remarked, “With this new, year-round service, we are underlining our commitment to connecting South Germany and South Africa.”
He added, “Operated by our modern and fuel-efficient Airbus A350, this service will run three times a week. It not only enhances connectivity but also strengthens economic ties between Europe and South Africa.”

- Flight LH 578: Three times weekly, departing MUC at 20:05, arriving at JNB at 06:30
- Flight LH 579: Three times weekly, departing JNB at 08:20, arriving at MUC at 18:50
