Madagascar Airlines and Air Austral Sign Codeshare and Special Prorate Agreements
The revived partnership expands route access between Madagascar and Réunion while unlocking wider regional coverage.

Madagascar Airlines (MD) and Air Austral have officially signed a codeshare agreement and a Special Prorate Agreement (SPA), marking a significant step in revitalising their commercial cooperation.
In a joint statement on June 18 at Paris Air Show 2025, the partnership was described as a means to enhance connectivity between Madagascar, Réunion, and other regional and international destinations—broadening fare options and travel opportunities for customers of both airlines.
Madagascar Airlines customers can now book flights under the MD flight code operated by Air Austral between Réunion and several Malagasy destinations, including Antananarivo, Antsiranana, and Nosy Be.
Air Austral, in turn gains access to Madagascar Airlines’ entire domestic network via the SPA—offering its passengers broader coverage across Madagascar with easier connections to key destinations.
A notable addition includes a new inter-island route connecting Réunion, Toamasina, and Sainte-Marie (RUN-TMM-SMS). This regional air link aims to strengthen tourism and economic ties between the islands.
The Air Austral-operated Réunion–Toamasina flight will connect to a Toamasina–Sainte-Marie service operated by Madagascar Airlines.

Thierry de Bailleul, CEO of Madagascar Airlines, highlighted the benefits of the partnership in delivering increased flexibility, choice, and service continuity for passengers travelling between the islands and beyond.
Hugues Marchessaux, President of Air Austral’s Executive Board, added that “it embodies the connection of two neighbouring islands with a shared history.”
Codeshare flights will be available for purchase in both airlines’ reservation systems beginning June 27, 2025.
