The Moroccan Airports Authority (ONDA) announced on March 20, 2025, the launch of a major construction project for a new terminal at Mohammed V Airport in Casablanca.

The initiative, part of ONDA’s “Airports 2030” strategy, aims to position Morocco as a global aviation hub.

In a statement, ONDA revealed the terminal will have a capacity of 20 million passengers annually and is expected to be completed by 2029, with an estimated investment of 15 billion dirhams (approx $1.5B).

New Terminal Design and Features

The terminal, designed in an “H” shape, will support hub operations and align with international standards for baggage connection times and gate efficiency, ONDA notes.

It will also address growing air traffic demands, particularly in support of Royal Air Maroc’s development plans.

Other features include a new parallel runway measuring 3700m by 45m, aeronautical facilities, and a 42m control tower.

Enhanced Connectivity and Traveller Experience

ONDA has reported that the terminal will connect to Morocco’s high-speed rail network, linking Kenitra and Marrakech, to improve accessibility for domestic and international travellers.

This integration, inspired by major global airports like Charles de Gaulle and Heathrow, is expected to reduce travel times and enhance transport intermodality.

The terminal will also offer passenger amenities over three levels, including VIP lounges, Duty-Free shopping, a hotel with runway views, and a green oasis.

The earthworks tender for the project has already been launched, with additional tenders to follow in the coming months.

‘This ambitious terminal reflects Morocco’s forward-thinking strategy and reinforces its readiness for significant events like the 2030 FIFA World Cup,’ ONDA stated.
