According to Qantas International CEO Cam Wallace, “We’re so excited to be launching two new international routes, unlocking more options and greater choice for all Australians to connect to the world through our growing network.”

Perth Airport’s Chief Commercial and Aviation Officer Kate Holsgrove added: “Creating additional capacity within Terminal 3 and Terminal 4 will allow Qantas to add or expand their services to Western Australia and is an important interim measure as we build new terminal facilities at Airport Central so Qantas can relocate in 2031.”

The Perth-Johannesburg route will operate three times a week – on Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday as flight QF65 with an estimated flight time of around 11 hours and 15 minutes*, Qantas says.

The service will be operated by an Airbus A330-200 aircraft, configured with 27 business class seats (in a 1-2-1 layout, each featuring direct aisle access and converting into a lie-flat bed) and 224 economy seats.

South Africa Connection: A Key Focus

The introduction of the direct Perth-Johannesburg flight is particularly noteworthy for its potential to strengthen ties between Western Australia and South Africa.

Wallace noted that this service will provide “a vital connection for customers in Perth to visit popular cities like Cape Town through our partnership with Airlink.”

Qantas also announced a new Perth-Auckland service starting on December 8, 2025. These additions contribute to Qantas’ expanding international network, which now encompasses over 100 destinations globally.
