Qatar Airways (QR) finalised an agreement with Boeing on May 14, 2025, to purchase up to 210 widebody aircraft.

Boeing confirms this as its largest widebody order, including the largest order for 787 Dreamliners and Qatar Airways’ largest-ever aircraft purchase.

The aircraft purchase agreement was signed at a formal event witnessed by U.S. President Donald J. Trump and Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, alongside Boeing President and CEO Kelly Ortberg and Qatar Airways Group CEO Badr Mohammed Al-Meer, with Boeing Commercial Airplanes President and CEO Stephanie Pope also present.

Boeing Fleet Details:

  • 130 Boeing 787 Dreamliners—the largest Dreamliner order to date—designed for a 25% fuel-use reduction versus previous-generation aircraft.
  • 30 Boeing 777-9 aircraft, the largest twin-engine passenger jet, with 25% lower fuel consumption and emissions compared to older models.
  • 50 options (mix of additional 787s and 777-9s).

Boeing states the agreement supports approximately 400,000 U.S. jobs.

Strategic Expansion for Qatar Airways

Qatar Airways CEO Badr Mohammed Al-Meer described the acquisition as crucial for the airline’s fleet modernisation towards the “cleanest, youngest, and most efficient fleet in global aviation.”

With this acquisition, Qatar Airways is set to become the largest 787 Dreamliner operator in the Middle East, according to Boeing.

Fleet Growth & Market Impact
