The Italian Government announced that its flag carrier, ITA Airways, has completed a flight marking the reopening of the direct Rome-Tripoli, Libya route after a ten-year hiatus.

The flight between Rome and Tripoli’s Mitiga International Airport (MJI) took place on July 24, 2023, with Prime Minister Dbeibeh on board. The Italian Government remarked that the flight is the beginning of a new trade route set to start next autumn.

“After the International Conference on Development and Migration, it is another tangible sign of the direction that the Italian government wants to give in relations with Libya and in relations with the States of the enlarged Mediterranean.”
