Royal Air Maroc (AT) is reportedly finalising a tender to purchase new long- and medium-haul aircraft in anticipation of increased tourist arrivals to Morocco and network expansion.

The airline’s CEO, Abdelhamid Addou, outlined the plans during an interview at the Bloomberg New Economy Gateway Africa conference held in Marrakech, Morocco, in June 2023.

According to Bloomberg, the state-owned carrier intends to add “many new routes,” primarily to Africa, Europe, and the Americas.

Addou emphasised that a larger fleet is crucial for Royal Air Maroc to become a more global airline and capitalise on Morocco’s popularity as a tourist destination.

The airline aims to transform its Casablanca base into a larger transit hub for sub-Saharan Africa.
