SAA and SunExpress Boost Operations with New MoU
SAA and SunExpress sign MoU to add four aircraft to SAA’s fleet in 2024/2025.
South African Airways (SA) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with SunExpress, a joint venture of Lufthansa and Turkish Airlines.
The MoU, signed on December 14, 2023, aims to support SAA’s operations with four additional aircraft in the 2024/2025 financial year.
The signing ceremony, held at a joint press event in Johannesburg, was attended by SunExpress CEO Max Kownatzki and SAA CEO Prof. John Lamola.
Pursuing Broader Partnership – Deepening Ties with Maintenance, Training, and Commercial Support
The MoU builds upon a current six-month damp lease agreement initiated in October this year, which includes the lease of two Boeing 737-800s, maintenance, and cockpit crew.
In addition to increasing the number of damp lease aircraft, SAA and SunExpress are exploring options for multi-year reciprocal capacity support and further cooperation in areas including maintenance, training, and commercial support.
CEO Prof. John Lamola of SAA expressed pleasure at continued cooperation with SunExpress, praising their reliability. The partnership has been expanded to include more aircraft for peak season 2024, meeting growing customer demand and managing the global aircraft availability crisis.
