South African Airways (SA) announced plans to expand its regional network – operating flights to Blantyre, Lilongwe, Windhoek, and Victoria Falls before the start of the (2022) festive season. The International Air Services Council (IASC) ratified that SAA retains all its historical route traffic rights, following SAA’s voluntary relinquishing of the number of frequencies on the destinations it is not currently servicing.

Additionally, SAA is increasing frequencies to its current domestic and regional destinations, including Accra, Cape Town, Durban, Harare, Lusaka, Mauritius, and Kinshasa. There are also plans to relaunch the first intercontinental route during the first quarter of 2023.

“Those routes and frequencies that are not part of SAA’s medium-term plans will progressively be released to the Council for the benefit of the industry.” -Professor John Lamola, Executive Chairman & CEO, FlySAA.
