South African Airways Reports ‘Steady Growth’ Three Years After Relaunch
SAA notes fleet tripled, routes doubled since 2021
South African Airways (SA) has reported “steady and sustainable growth” on the occasion of its third anniversary since relaunching operations in September 2021.
The carrier has noted significant expansions in both its fleet and route network.
SAA Interim CEO Professor John Lamola highlighted:
- The airline now operates 16 aircraft on 15 routes, with a 400% growth in passenger revenues between August 2022 and August 2024.
- SAA has reopened 11 outstations, including Mauritius, Perth, and São Paulo, and expanded its workforce to around 1,200 staff, including 140 pilots.
- New routes to Lubumbashi and Dar es Salaam will launch in November 2024.
Lamola also mentioned that SAA is executing a business plan to thrive on operational revenues, with potential strategic equity partnerships under consideration.
Despite global supply constraints affecting aircraft deliveries, SAA will utilise wet-leased aircraft from Sun Express during the December peak season.
