U.S. Department of Homeland Security Ends ‘Shoes-Off’ Policy for TSA Security Checkpoints
New initiative to streamline the TSA security checkpoint process—lowering wait times

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has announced on July 8, 2025, that passengers can now keep their shoes on while passing through TSA security checkpoints at domestic airports, effective immediately.
According to the announcement by Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, this change is expected to streamline the security screening process and reduce wait times for travellers.
Noem emphasised that security remains a top priority, stating, “We are confident we can implement this change while maintaining the highest security standards.”
Other TSA security measures, including identity verification and Secure Flight vetting, will still be enforced during the screening process.
