The United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UN Tourism) has highlighted the transformative potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the tourism sector.

At the recent World Travel Market Ministers Summit in collaboration with the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) during WTM London 2024, UN Tourism outlined a strategic roadmap to harness AI for sustainable tourism development and enhanced visitor experiences.

UN Tourism’s Strategic Roadmap for AI in Tourism outlines several key areas of focus:

  • Research: Conducting in-depth studies to understand AI’s impact on jobs and investment in tourism, including the upcoming “Artificial Intelligence Adoption in Tourism” analysis in collaboration with Saxion University of Applied Sciences.
  • Education, Upskilling and Reskilling: Enhancing the Tourism Online Academy with advanced AI tools across 10new courses to equip tourism professionals with essential AI skills through online courses and training programs.
  • Investment: Encouraging investment in AI-driven tourism initiatives, with a focus on alternative funding models and support for emerging markets and startups.
