WTTC: Women’s Engagement Key to Thriving Global Travel & Tourism Sector

The WTTC urges both public and private sectors to promote women’s participation in the Travel & Tourism SECTOR.

In July 2023, the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) emphasised the importance of women’s engagement in the Travel & Tourism sector at the Women Deliver Global Conference in Kigali, Rwanda. Women account for over 50% of the sector’s workforce, and public-private collaboration is necessary to ensure they receive training, networks, and finance.

At the conference, Julia Simpson, WTTC President & CEO, highlighted the importance of promoting women’s involvement in the sector . The event addressed challenges faced by women in the Travel & Tourism sector and explored strategies to overcome them.

Panel discussions shed light on challenges faced by women in various aspects of the business, including barriers to entry, operational obstacles, and ecosystem limitations. The event underscored the vital role of mentorship in empowering young women and girls in business.
