IATA: SAF Registry Goes Live
SAF Registry to accelerate aviation’s transition to net zero emissions

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has annouced the official launch the Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) Registry (Apirl 3, 2025), transferring its management to the Civil Aviation Decarbonisation Organisation (CADO).
In a statement, IATA emphasised the Registry’s role in safeguarding SAF transactions, ensuring purchases are accurately recorded and preventing double counting.
The platform enables airlines, corporate customers, fuel producers, and regulators to track SAF usage globally, supporting the industry’s transition to net zero emissions by 2050.
Marie Owens Thomsen, IATA’s Senior Vice President Sustainability and Chief Economist, noted that progress requires stronger policy support: “Governments must reallocate their direct support given to fossil fuel producers in favour of renewable energy production.”
While a step toward a transparent global SAF market, IATA highlights the need for continued industry collaboration and policy action to accelerate aviation’s decarbonisation efforts.
