ICAO’s 6th LTAG Stocktaking Event Highlights Aviation’s Net Zero Efforts

Nearly 400 participants convene in Montréal, October 2024 for aviation decarbonisation

The 2024 ICAO Long-Term Aspirational Goal – LTAG Stocktaking event, ICAO’s sixth, convened nearly 400 participants in October 2024 to exchange expertise, showcase successful projects, and identify priorities for decarbonising the aviation sector.

The four-day event at ICAO’s Montréal Headquarters featured 90 panelists from various sectors, including governments, aviation and energy industries, research institutions, start-ups, financial bodies, and civil society organisations.

ICAO Global Framework for Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF)

The event highlighted the ICAO Global Framework for SAF, Lower Carbon Aviation Fuels (LCAF), and other clean energy sources. Discussions tracked progress on the ICAO Roadmap, covering Policy and Planning, Regulatory Framework, Implementation Support, and Financing.

ICAO Finvest Hub

The ICAO Finvest Hub, a new initiative, aims to connect aviation decarbonisation projects with potential investors. “The ICAO Finvest Hub is our contribution to facilitate financing for the decarbonisation of the aviation sector,” remarked Juan Carlos Salazar, ICAO Secretary-General.

ACT-SAF Programme

The ICAO Assistance, Capacity Building and Training for SAF (ACT-SAF) programme, with over 200 partners, accelerates support for SAF production. ICAO advocates for expanded partnerships through ACT-SAF for a green transition in global aviation.
