Kenya Airways Joins The Aviation Challenge 2024
KQ completes first TAC 2024 flight between Nairobi and Schiphol
Kenya Airways (KQ) is participating in The Aviation Challenge, TAC, 2024, joining its third edition.
The Aviation Challenge (TAC), is an initiative by SkyTeam Alliance that seeks to recognise airlines operating the most environmentally responsible flight operations.
SkyTeam outlines, the TAC is a collaborative aviation initiative founded to accelerate toward a more sustainable future for air travel.
KQ’s theme for the challenge is “Integrate Sustainability,” emphasising a holistic approach across all its business aspects.
KQ Selects Four Routes for 2024 TAC
The airline’s inaugural sustainable flight for the 2024 challenge operated on Wednesday, September 4, between Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (NBO) and Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport (AMS).
The airline noted, “The menu featured vegetarian options made from locally sourced ingredients,” adding that “[KQ] has introduced sustainability performance data analysis to derive decision-useful insights.”
The airline plans to implement sustainable practices on additional routes for the TSFC, including:
- NBO – JFK: Nairobi (JKIA) to New York City, USA (John F. Kennedy Airport)
- NBO – CDG: Nairobi (JKIA) to Paris, France (Charles de Gaulle Airport)
- NBO – LHR: Nairobi (JKIA) to London, UK (London Heathrow Airport)
According to KQ, initiatives will include ground operations initiatives, a sustainably curated in-flight menu, e-mobility for guests, a travel light policy, waste management initiatives, and other related efforts.
