At the 54th Paris Air Show on June 20, 2023 – Embraer released its 20-year Market Outlook for commercial aircraft deliveries through 2042. The report identifies global demand for 11,000 new jet and turboprop aircraft with up to 150 seats, comprising 8,790 jets and 2,210 turboprops. The total market value of these new aircraft is estimated at USD 650 billion.

Embraer’s Market Outlook also includes an analysis of global trends and influences across six world regions. It predicts that world passenger traffic, measured in revenue passenger kilometres (RPKs), will return to 2019 levels by 2024 due to a prolonged pandemic recovery, geopolitical factors, and changes in industry dynamics. Global RPKs are expected to grow at an annual rate of 3.2% through 2042.

The report highlights three key trends that will shape future demand for travel and aircraft: fragmentation of the global economy, social revolution, and the market effects of sustainability. These trends will impact how goods and people move, with remote work prompting air service in new communities. Demand for air travel will also be influenced by the rising cost of new fuels and technologies.

Other trends highlighted include the need for fleet flexibility to cope with an uncertain and changing demand, mostly through narrow-body complementation, and the growing popularity of crossover narrow-body all-cargo jets.
