FlySafair, Oman Air, Airlink Lead On-Time Performance in Middle East & Africa for May 2024
Middle East & Africa airlines see OTP boost in May.
Cirium reports a significant improvement in On-Time Performance (OTP) for Middle Eastern and African airlines in May 2024, with FlySafair (FA) leading the region at 96.81%.
While North America and Latin America faced challenges with declining OTP for top-ranking airlines, this trend may be partially attributed to the increase in flight cancellations reported in these regions, according to Cirium’s report.
Middle East & Africa Show Resilience Amid Challenges
Despite ongoing geopolitical tensions in some parts of the Middle East, the region has witnessed positive developments with a 38% decline in flight cancellations compared to April. Only 2,272 flights were cancelled in May, down from 3,675 in the previous month.
O.R. Tambo International Airport (JNB), the main hub of Safair and Airlink, ended the month with an OTP of 93.09%, up by nearly 9 points from last month’s OTP of 84.64%. Muscat International Airport (MCT), main hub of Oman, concluded the month with an OTP of 92.10%, a near 2-point improvement over last month’s OTP of 90.34%.
