South African Airways Expands Fleet to 20 Aircraft
SAA adds two Airbus A320s in 1Q 2025
South African Airways (SA) has announced the addition of two aircraft to its fleet in January 2025, growing its fleet size to 20 aircraft.
The two leased narrow-body Airbus A320s arrived in Johannesburg from Ireland-based aircraft lessor AerCap.
SAA stated it is rolling out a plan to add five aircraft to its fleet during the 2025 calendar year.
SAA Enters Phase of Consolidation
“SAA’s fleet growth comes as the airline enters a phase of consolidation, increasing the frequency of flights to service an existing route network, to ensure South African leisure and business travellers enjoy more direct access to major African cities.
“In addition, SAA Cargo facilitates trade links between economic hubs across the continent and beyond,” SAA’s interim CEO, Professor John Lamola stated.
Adding to the A320s, SAA’s fleet comprises wide-body A330s and long-range A340-300s.
