World Tourism Day 2023, hosted in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, was attended by over 50 Ministers of Tourism and numerous high-level delegates from the public and private sectors. The event was centred around the theme “Tourism and Green Investments,” featuring expert-led panels discussing key topics.
Tourism Opens Minds: Bridging Cultures and Fostering Understanding
Secretary-General Pololikashvili introduced “Tourism Opens Minds”, a significant step towards highlighting the role of tourism in fostering peace and understanding by bridging cultures.
This initiative is centered on promoting lesser-known destinations, making them more accessible to tourists, and encouraging tourists to broaden their horizons when choosing travel destinations.
Lasting Impact: Investing in Tourism Education
To ensure a lasting impact of World Tourism Day 2023 celebrations, UNWTO Secretary-General Pololikashvili and Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Tourism Ahmed Al-Khateeb announced a joint project.
The project, named The Riyadh School of Tourism and Hospitality, aims to create new generations of skilled tourism workers. The school will offer a comprehensive range of educational programs, from diplomas and certificates to professional courses and degrees at the Bachelor’s and Master’s level.
