World Travel Awards 2023 Winners Announced for Africa and Indian Ocean

The 30th World Travel Awards (WTA) unveiled the leading tourism and hospitality brands in Africa and the Indian Ocean for the year 2023. The winners were celebrated during the WTA Africa & Indian Ocean Gala Ceremony 2023, held at the Atlantis Royal resort in Dubai, UAE
Top Destinations and Attractions
The Maldives emerged as the winner of ‘Indian Ocean’s Leading Destination’ as well as ‘Indian Ocean’s Leading Tourist Board’. Kenya was named ‘Africa’s Leading Destination’, while Durban, South Africa’s thriving hub, took the coveted title of ‘Africa’s Leading Meetings & Conference Destination’.
Cape Town collected the honour of ‘Africa’s Leading City Destination’, and Tanzania’s Ngorongoro Conservation Area won ‘Africa’s Leading Tourist Attraction’.
Wedding and Honeymoon Destinations
The ‘Indian Ocean’s Leading Wedding Destination’ award went to Mauritius, while Seychelles claimed the title of ‘Indian Ocean’s Leading Honeymoon Destination’.
Leading Airlines in 2023
In the aviation sector, Ethiopian Airlines won ‘Africa’s Leading Airline’ and ‘Africa’s Leading Airline – Business Class’, while Kenya Airways was voted ‘Africa’s Leading Airline – Economy Class’. In addition, Jambojet was awarded ‘Africa’s Leading Low-Cost Airline 2023’, and ExecuJet received ‘Africa’s Leading Private Jet Charter 2023’.Air Mauritius claimed ‘Indian Ocean’s Leading Airline’, and Trans Maldivian Airways was named ‘Indian Ocean’s Leading Seaplane Operator’.
Newcomers and Travel Providers
In the newcomer categories, Morocco’s Fairmont Taghazout Bay was named ‘Africa’s Leading New Hotel’ and Emerald Zanzibar Resort & Spa hailed. ‘Africa’s Leading New Resort’. Emerald Faarufushi Resort & Spa, Maldives was voted Indian Ocean’s Leading New Resort’. Travel provider winners included Get Into Maldives Travels (‘Indian Ocean’s Leading Luxury Tour Operator’).
Graham Cooke, Founder of WTA, congratulated all winners for their excellence in tourism and for helping to raise the collective benchmark to even greater heights.
